Young Producers

Our 2021/22 Young Producers pilot project supported 10 young people to develop the skills and confidence needed to curate, produce and promote live literature events. The project culminated in “Flux” a takeover event at Contact in April 2022. You can watch the Young Producers discuss their experience of the project here and watch highlights of Flux here.

This project was generously supported by the Postcode Community Trust.

Story Makers

Working in partnership with Reform Radio and Sure Start centres in Gorton and Clayton we delivered a six-week storytelling course for parents of young children in autumn 2023. The project created a safe space for parents to connect, learn and explore; and resulted in them each writing and recording a story for their child. You can listen to the participants read and talk about their experience of the project, along with an interview with Nathon Bryon and Dapo Adeola on a special edition of Reform Radio’s The Mothership programme: https://www.reformradio.co.uk/show/the-mothership-24th-november-2023/

Re(verb)

In 2020 MLF ran Re(verb): a training project for young people, aged 12 – 16 featuring a series of fun and exciting writing, beat-boxing, rapping and music workshops. The workshops were led by Testament, a Hip-Hop MC, poet, theatre maker and world record-breaking human beatboxer, and Balraj Samrai, Producer and Educator from Manchester’s award-winning Swing Ting party and record label.

Participants developed skills and self-confidence through writing, performance and creativity and created some joint songs for a performance.

This project was supported by Arts Council England and the National Lottery Community Fund.
