Manchester Literature Festival provides new commissioning and writer in residence opportunities for both established and emerging writers, helping them to develop their creative portfolio.
New work is premiered at Festival events and made freely available as downloadable texts and/or podcasts or videos.
So far MLF has commissioned new works by 78 writers including award winning poets Imtiaz Dharker, Natalie Diaz, Inua Ellams, Caleb Femi, Seán Hewitt, Kei Miller, Andrew McMillan, Helen Mort, Jason Allen-Paisant, Roger Robinson, Jean Sprackland and novelists Mohammed Hanif, Deborah Levy, Michael Morpurgo, Benjamin Myers, Audrey Niffenegger, Kamila Shamsie, Gillian Slovo, Ali Smith and Jeanette Winterson.
We have partnered with many cultural organisations and venues in the city including Manchester Art Gallery, Manchester Museum, Manchester Libraries,
Manchester UNESCO City of Literature, The Whitworth and Young Identity alongside national organisations British Council, Canal & River Trust, National Trust, Northern, Lancashire Wildlife Trust and Royal Literary Fund.
Our New Commissions have also been presented at Corridor of Light, Festival of Libraries, Karachi Literature Festival, Ordkraft (Aalborg) and LiteratureXchange (Aarhus).
