‘There is terrifying restraint in these poems of war wherein realism becomes a song, realism becomes hallucination, realism is a naked nerve set to a tune. Terrifying, yes, but necessary. Still City is an important book.’ Ilya Kaminsky

Award-winning Ukrainian poet Oksana Maksymchuk reads from and discusses her stunning debut collection in English Still City (Carcanet) charting the Russian invasion of her homeland. Oksana draws on personal experience as well as witness accounts, social media and news reports to create an immersive chronicle of war, shining a light on survival, mourning and moments of hope amidst the terror. Hosted by poet Charlotte Shevchenko Knight (Food for the Dead) and presented in partnership with Manchester Poetry Library at Manchester Metropolitan University.
