With Danish literature flourishing and more of its novels being translated into English than ever before, the festival was very excited to be hosting the Manchester leg of this UK tour of contemporary Danish writers. Leif Davidsen (The Serbian Dane), Morten Ramsland (Doghead) and Janne Teller (Odin’s Island) have won prestigious awards and prizes in their native land, and critical acclaim all over Europe. Their books are an eclectic mix, ranging from a thriller to a modern-day take on Nordic mythology and a tragic-comic family saga. What they all have in common is vivid characterisation and unusual settings – from coolest Copenhagen to the icy Nordic landscape. Also taking part in the tour are two award winning-translators: Anne Born (Odin’s Island) and Barbara Haveland (The Serbian Dane).
